Trawling
Trawling involves pulling a fishing net through the water behind one or more boats. Trawlers vary in size from small open boats to large factory trawlers with over 10,000 hp. Can be carried out by a single vessel or two trawlers fishing cooperatively (pair trawling).
Longline Fishing
A technique using a main line with baited hooks attached at intervals by branch lines called snoods. Longlines are classified by position in the water: surface or bottom. Lines can be set by anchor or left to drift, with hundreds or thousands of baited hooks per line.
Crab Pot
Crab pots are enclosed wire frameworks used to bait, lure, and trap crabs commercially. The pot has four openings — crabs enter to eat the bait but cannot escape once inside the inner chamber. This method is used extensively for harvesting Red King Crab.
